Circular No. 90/2022: Notice of the 53rd Annual General Meeting of the Johore Bar (24 Feb 2023)

Notice is hereby given pursuant to Section 70(1B) of the Legal Profession Act, 1976 that the 53RD ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING of the Johore Bar will be held as follows:

QUORUM

Your attention is drawn to Section 70(2A) of the Legal Profession Act, 1976, which states that “the quorum shall be five percent of the total number of members of the State Bar.” Our membership is 2585 and the quorum is 5% which is 129 members. Proprietors and partners of law firms in Johor are requested to attend the meeting and to encourage their legal assistants to attend the meeting. Your co-operation in this matter will be greatly appreciated.

FURTHER NOTICE

Notice is hereby given under Section 70(2B) of the Legal Profession Act, 1976 that if a quorum is not present by 3:00 p.m. on 24th February 2023, the meeting shall be adjourned to 4:00 p.m. on the same day, that is 24th February 2023 at the same venue, that is Auditorium, Level 10, Holiday Villa Hotel, Johor Bahru whereupon whoever then present shall form the quorum for the meeting.

Notice is hereby given under Section 70(2C) that any member wishing to move any motion/resolution at the said meeting must lodge a written notice of the same with the Secretary of the Johore Bar not less than (7) days before the date of the Annual General Meeting, i.e. on or before Thursday, 16th February 2023.

Please be informed that 1 CPD Point will be awarded for attending the AGM.

NOTE:

  1. Members are kindly requested to make every effort to attend the meeting punctually to ensure quorum for the Meeting.

2. Registration Counters will be opened from 1:30 p.m. onwards at the venue and light refreshments will be served.

3. Only members of the Johore Bar with valid practicing certificate shall be entitled to attend and vote at the Meeting. Pupils in Chambers are encouraged to attend as observers without voting rights and shall be seated at the area(s) designated for pupils.

4. At the meeting every member present shall have one vote and where there is an equality of votes, the member presiding shall have a casting vote.
