Circular No. 62/2023: Mersing Court | Civil Contempt

MERSING COURT

We refer to Circular No. 60/2023  on the operations of the Mersing Court.

We have been informed by the Court that the earlier notification on the new operations schedule of the Mersing Court is now cancelled. Following this, the Mersing Magistrate’s Court will continue to sit at the Mersing Court as before, namely, once a week on every Wednesday. Members are advised to take note of this accordingly.

CIVIL CONTEMPT

Civil contempt generally refers to committal proceedings taken by a party against the adverse party for non-compliance with a court order. Amongst the reliefs usually sought in committal proceedings is for the contemnor to be committed to prison (civil prison) for a specified duration as may be ordered by the Court. There are specific steps to be taken once the committal order is issued in order to ensure a smooth execution of the order. For reasons thereof, members who have obtained committal orders are advised to liaise immediately with the Deputy Registrar Tn Arun a/l Noval Dass with particulars of the order so that they can be advised of the necessary steps to be taken for purposes of smooth execution of the committal order. Thank you.
