Speakers
RANITA MARKANDAN is an accomplished legal practitioner with Messrs Lawrence Pereira and Partners and HRDC-certified trainer with over two decades of experience. A graduate of the University of London with a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) (Hons), she was called to the Malaysian Bar in 1999 after completing her Certificate in Legal Practice.
She began her legal career in civil litigation, representing individual clients, companies, and financial institutions in dispute resolution, land matters, insurance claims, and banking litigation. She has appeared at all levels of the Malaysian courts, including the Court of Appeal.
Transitioning into training and consultancy, Ranita has since served over 500 organisations from various sectors such as construction, oil & gas, insurance, healthcare, banking, and multinational corporations. Her expertise includes: Managing Employee Misconduct & Poor Performance; Domestic Inquiry & Industrial Relations; Anti-Sexual Harassment & Gender Sensitivity; Personal Data Protection, Anti-Bribery & Corruption; and Employment Contracts, Restructuring & HR Compliance.
Her clientele includes high-profile names such as BASF, Dyson, Infineon, Bank Rakyat, Gamuda, Bosch, Airbus, AIA, FGV, MSIG, Tokio Marine, Alliance Financial Inclusion, and many more.
In addition to conducting training, she is actively involved in drafting employment contracts, employee handbooks, and customised HR policies, continuing to contribute her vast knowledge in employment law and workplace compliance.
MUHENDARAN A/L SUPPIAH was calledto the Malaysian Bar in 1991 and is a Partner in Muhendaran Sri since 2001. Muhendaran Sri, the law practice that he co-founded, is considered an industry leader in the field of labour law, comprising industrial relations, employment law and social security law. The practice also encompasses but is not limited to the area of Civil Litigation, Commercial Law, Family Litigation, Child Law and Construction Law. He graduated from the University of Lancaster LL.B. (Hons) in 1989; University Malaya, Certificate in Legal Practice in 1990; University Malaya, Certificate in Business Coaching in 2009 and AIAC, Certificate in Sports Arbitration, 2016.
Muhendaran’s specialized in the field of employment and industrial relations law, and routinely deliver papers at conferences, seminars and professional courses. He has extensive litigation experience in all different levels of courts in West and East Malaysia, and advise extensively on matters relating to dismissal and employment issues arising from both business re-organizations and mergers and acquisitions of corporations. He also advise and act for companies of all sizes, businesses, Trade Unions, other law firms, corporations, non-profit organizations, public interest groups, individuals seeking top quality legal representation and occasionally members of the judiciary who want his perspective of the law, or who wants him to submit his opinion to the court as a friend of the court.
R. JAYABALAN graduated with Bachelor of Law (LLB Hons) from the International Islamic University Malaysia in 1996 and obtained his post-graduate Master in Business Administration (MBA) from International Islamic University Malaysia in 2004.
Jaya was called to the Bar in April 1997. He has been in active practice since then based in Johor Bahru and conducting litigation in various courts. He is the principal of his own firm Messrs R. Jayabalan.
His main area of practice is litigation and dispute resolution. He is an active litigator at trial and appellate level. He regularly appears at all levels of courts from Magistrates Court, Sessions Court, High Court, Court of Appeal and Federal Court. He also conducts litigation at the Industrial Court and arbitration.
Jaya’s main area of practice is professional negligence, industrial relations and employment law, general tort, contract/commercial law, insurance and banking law, land and strata laws and administrative law amongst others. He also actively writes and speaks on various issues of law and procedure and on issues concerning legal practice in the country.
Jaya is a member of the Bar Council. He has served as Chairman of the Johore Bar and is currently the Bar Rep and Treasurer of the Malaysian Bar. He chairs the Finance Committee and is the Deputy Chair of the Risk Management Committee of the Bar Council.
