The Young Lawyers and Chambering Pupils Sub Committee is organising a Town Hall Session as stated below. The objective of the Session is to provide a forum for young lawyers and pupils in Johore to share their thoughts and concerns over issues affecting them and for an opportunity for them to provide their own suggestions and ideas for the betterment of the profession. The Town Hall Session will also provide space for senior lawyers to share their insights and practical knowledge towards assisting the young lawyers and pupils in meeting the challenges that they may face in pursuing their career.
The Town Hall Session will include discussions on the following issues affecting young lawyers and pupils:
- Managing work-life balance.
- Remuneration and allowance issues.
- Managing work stress and job expectations.
- Challenges in starting own practice.
- Role of young lawyers at the Bar.

About the Speakers
Mohamad Ezri bin Abdul Wahab is the Vice-President of the Malaysian Bar for the term 2022/2023 and 2023/2024. He was elected to the Bar Council from 2016 to 2021 and from 2022 to 2024.He was called to the Bar in 1994 and started his own firm in 1996. He is an accredited mediator and a Syariah Law practitioner in Penang. In 2018, he was appointed as the President of the Strata Management Tribunal under the Ministry of Housing and Local Government Development, a position which he currently holds until today. He completed the Train-the-Trainer (“TTT”) Programme on Anti Money Laundering, which was a collaborative effort between Bank Negara Malaysia and the Asian Banking School. He is currently the Chairperson of the Bar Council AMLA Committee and Bar Council Ad Hoc Committee on Touting.
Fahri Azzat was called to the Bar in 1999. He is a member of the Bar Council. In his own words, he is a general practitioner with a bias for litigation across diverse areas of law. He is a trainer with the Bar Council Advocacy Training Committee and is also the author of The Malaysian Guide to Advocacy (Sweet & Maxwell, 2019). He actively writes and contributes to discussions on matters affecting the legal practice and young lawyers. He is the managing partner for Messrs Fahri, Azzat & Co. He is also the Co-Chairperson of the Bar Council Syariah Law Committee.
R. Jayabalan graduated with LL.B (Hons) from the International Islamic University Malaysia (‘IIUM’) in 1996 and obtained his MBA in 2004. He was admitted as an Advocate and Solicitor to the High Court of Malaya in 1997 and has been in active practice since then. He is currently operating his own practice since 2013. His area of practice is general civil litigation comprising trial and appellate levels. He is currently Chairman of the Johore Bar and Chairperson of the Bar Council Small Firms Practice Committee and a member of the Bar Council.
Nur Amirah binti Mohd Pauzi will serve as Moderator for the Session.
