An article carried in the New Straits Times on 16/01/2021 entitled “Desperation drives JB homeless to depend on handouts from public” brings into focus the plight of persons affected by loss of employment as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic suffered globally. The unemployment translates to a loss of income, placing those impacted in dire condition, leaving them to depend on society for aid. The accounts of abandonment by family, homelessness, scarcity of food sometimes starvation, health and mobility related challenges are but a segment of the real life distress suffered as a result.
MCO 2.0 has once again put into stark relief the disparity between the haves and the have-nots. Recognising this, the Johore Bar Committee is therefore working with “Reach Out to the Needy”; an informal group comprising concerned citizens and good Samaritans who have come together to provide free meals to the needy every Thursday at the car park behind Foh Chong Building on Jalan Ibrahim, at Merlin Tower, and, at the bustop in front of the old Railway Station.
We are therefore appealing to members to donate any sum of money so that we too can join in the efforts of Reach Out to the Needy. We look forward to your generous contributions to enable us to provide some relief to those marginalised in the society with warmth and sustenance in the form of pre-packed food packets. Undeniably we are all affected by the impact of this pandemic, but let us not forget the famous quote – I cried because I had no shoes until I met a man who had no feet.
Please make those donations by way of Direct Deposit or Online Transfer by 30/01/2021 to:
