The unprecedented drop in oil and gas price is bringing along an unprecedented tsunami effect on the economic landscape worldwide and Malaysia is no exception. Daily corporate and financial news on corporations embarking on massive scaling down of its capex and opex budgets are sufficient evidence of the havoc being created by this continuing downward slide in the oil and gas price.

There were talks of equally massive scaling down of corporate activities and in particular the mergers and acquisitions activities. Corporate advisers, corporate turnaround specialists, investment bankers and the like are braving the down side of mergers and acquisitions as an integral part of its corporate restructuring strategies.

That said there is a silver lining even in the darkest of clouds. This means that scaling down and down-sizing will invariably entail all sorts of corporate activities of variant business combinations by whatsoever name. Mergers and acquisitions are surely expected to have its share and be an integral part of the agenda of the boardrooms and general meetings of corporations embarking on such corporate restructuring.
