Circular No. 12/18: Workshop on Current Issues Affecting Conveyancing Practice (19 April 2018)

Please be informed that the Continuing Professional Development Sub-Committee is organising a workshop on current issues affecting conveyancing practice.

The seminar will focus on current issues affecting conveyancing practice, including, scam against conveyancing lawyers; whether a solicitor owes a duty of care only to his client and not to third parties; duty of care of vendor’s solicitor to the purchaser; duty of a loan solicitor to advise on the sale and purchase transaction; duty of vendor’s solicitor to purchaser when holding purchase price as stakeholders; latest Federal Court decision on duty of solicitor as a stakeholder; and learning to identify issues in a transaction.

Participants will be divided into groups to answer some workshop questions, including answering some questions in Kahoot!, a game-based learning platform that makes it fun for participants to learn the subject matter.

 About the speaker

Mr. Andrew Wong was called to the Malaysian Bar in 1978 and had served in various capacities in the State Bars of Pahang and Johor. He was a member of the Bar Council from 1987-1989 and was Chairman of CPC from 2008 to 2010.

From 2008 to 2010, he wrote many articles on property laws for the Property Plus column of The Sun newspaper, for purpose of educating members of public in property transactions.

From 2008 until 2017, he was appointed by the Legal Profession Qualifying Board to evaluate and assess the Conveyancing and land law modules taught by University Utara Malaysia, Multimedia University in Melaka, University Sultan Zainal Abidin in Kuala Terengganu and by University Sains Islam Malaysia in Nilai.

Since 2015, he had been appointed by Multimedia University, Melaka to conduct a full-day workshop on Conveyancing practice for final year law students, on an annual basis.

Registration must be accompanied with payment to guarantee your place and is on a first-come first served basis.

CPD points and Certificate of attendance will be given upon completion of the whole session to participants who have attended until the end of the event.
