Circular No. 6/2022: Introduction to the New Era of Civil Litigation (25 Mar 2022)

Please be informed that the Continuing Professional Development and the Publications & Information Technology Sub-Committees of the Johore Bar Committee are organising the above titled Webinar.

This Webinar will cover the following:-

  • Taking instructions on a new brief and identifying a cause of action.
  • Dealing with interlocutory applications.
  • Trial procedure:

~ Pre-trial preparation: collating documents, agreed facts, issues to be tried; and

~ Preparing witness statements, examination in chief, cross-examination and re-examination of witnesses.

  • Online hearings:

~ How to conduct online hearings; and

~ How to assist lead Counsel with online hearings.

  • Brief overview of conduct of appeals.

About the Speaker

Aarthi Jeyarajah runs her own practice in the name of Aarthi & Associates (a member of the RL Group Law Practice) and is a civil and commercial litigator with varied experience in handling contractual claims, commercial disputes, tortious claims, defamation actions, claims in relation to trust and debt recovery litigation, with a zest for challenging Arbitral Awards and Adjudication Decisions obtained under the Construction Industry Payment and Adjudication Act 2012 (CIPAA). She has had the opportunity to conduct matters in the capacity as counsel handling trials and hearings representing corporate and individual clients in the Subordinate Courts, the High Court and the appellate courts; and as co-counsel in complex commercial matters. She is a regular contributing editor of the “Malaysian Civil Procedure” (White Book) by Sweet & Maxwell and is also a contributor to a chapter in the practitioner’s textbook “Law and Practice of Injunctions in Malaysia”.

Once you provide the Secretariat with the above details and the proof of payment, you will receive an email with the registration link for the Webinar. Participants will also receive slides (if any – with the permission of the speaker) subsequent to the Webinar by way of email.

CPD points will be given upon completion of the whole session to participants who have attended until the end of the event based on the online report of ‘logged-in’ duration.
