Circular No. 108/2021: Premises and/or Signboard Licensing issue

The Johore Bar Committee [“JBC”] has received complaints from law firms that they have been issued with a ‘Notis Amaran’ by Majlis Bandaraya Johor Bahru [“MBJB”] in respect of premises and/or signboard licence.

Sometime in 2020, when it was first prompted of this issue by members, the JBC had in fact engaged in dialogue and had formally written to MBJB. MBJB, by its letter dated 16 February 2021 [“the MBJB Letter”], responded stating its agreement to waive the requirement for premises and/or signboard licences.

Members receiving such ‘Notis Amaran’ from any local authority of the State of Johore are advised to refer the officers to the MBJB Letter and to BC Circular No. 146/2021 dated 30/4/2021. Members are further advised to document the visit(s) and notify JBC of the same together with records of the visit(s).

Should you have any queries, please forward your queries to the Johore Bar Secretariat at secretariat@johorebar.org.my.
