This seminar is primarily focused on the legislations which are directly relevant to the adoption process, the practice and procedure as well as the judicial approach in adoption proceedings. This entails the interpretation of statutes, the principles on the criteria to be fulfilled and development of the law in this area.

About the Speaker
SHAHAREEN BEGUM was called to the High Court of Malaya on 5th October 1990. Shahareen is among the senior members of the Bar. She is the sole proprietor of Messrs Shahareen Begum at Batu Pahat, Johor. From the outset, Shahareen has been an active litigator, appearing in courts at all levels. She was the past Chairman of the Johore Bar Committee for the term 2020/2021 and 2021/2022 and she was the Secretary of the Malaysian Bar in the 2021/2022 term. Shahareen has served in the Johore Bar Committee in various capacities since 2010 and currently she is the Johore Bar’s Representative to the Bar Council.At the Bar Council, Shahareen is the Co-Chair of the Court Liaison Committee, Deputy Co-Chair of the Advocacy Training Committee and Deputy Chairperson of the Ad Hoc Peer Support Network Committee. As an Advocacy Trainer, she has trained widely in Malaysia since 2011, also training internationally.
