Please be informed that the Young Lawyers and Chambering Pupils and Continuing Professional Development Sub Committees is jointly organising a seminar entitled “Online Defamation”.
Most people now use Whatsapp or Facebook as their primary means of communication. This substantial increase of online communication has also led to more defamation suits being filed based on statements made online. This webinar will explore how one deals with such online defamation suits including the relevant provisions of the law that parties must consider. We will also look into how the courts have decided online defamation cases and its applicability to members of the public.

About the Speaker
Alliff Benjamin Suhaimi is a partner at M/s Thomas Philip. He holds an LL.B (Hons.) degree from the Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Malaysia and was admitted to the Malaysian Bar in 2010.
He is regularly appointed to advise and represent individuals and companies in matters relating to defamation, judicial reviews, land disputes as well as corporate and commercial disputes. He has also acted as counsel in a number of high-profile public interest litigation which includes a dispute involving a concession agreement to increase water tariffs, multi-party application by a community association against the usage of public park for a luxury condominium development.
Alliff Benjamin Suhaimi has several reported cases under his belt across practice areas. His notable cases include a Federal Court ruling on the position of qualified privilege which contributed to the development of the law of defamation in Malaysia.
