Circular No. 31/15: Workshop on E-Payment (14 Aug 2015)

The Continuing Professional Developmet Sub-Committee of the Johore Bar in collaboration with the Bar Council is organizing a Workshop on E-Payment.

Particulars of the Workshop are as follows:

Admission is free but advance registration is required.

This seminar is open to Members of the Bar, pupil in chambers and law firm staffs.

The workshop is to promote e-payment to Members of the Bar and to create awareness on the available e-payment services relating to the legal industry.

There will be exhibition booths set up by financial institutions and government agencies at the workshop.

Programme Details

Registration and visit to exhibition booths

Presentation 1: E-Payment Services by Conventional / Commercial Banks

Objectives: To create awareness on e-payment and its benefits, educate participants on e-payment services offered by the banks and promote secure e-payment services

Areas to be covered:

  • Benefits of e-payments: Why e-payment is a more relevant payment method
  • Full suite of services offered by banks: For law firms’ account and for client account
  • Fraud: Is internet banking safe and secure?

– Fraud trends in Malaysia and worldwide

– The evolution of security features in Malaysia and other initiatives undertaken in promoting awareness of safe practices

– Innovations in fraud and data security

  • Payment reference standards: How customers (account holders) reconcile payments made and received

Presentation 2: E-Payment Services by Islamic Banking Institutions

Objectives and areas to be covered are similar to those listed for Presentation 1

 

Presentation 3: Solicitors’ Account Rules 1990 by Karen Cheah Yee Lynn, Secretary, Malaysian Bar

Objective: To educate participants on the Solicitors’ Account Rules 1990

Areas to be covered:

  • Solicitors’ Account Rules 1990
  • Solicitors’ Account (Amendment) Rules 2013, in particular Rule 8(4)

Presentation 4: Stamp Duty E-Payment and Other Services by Lembaga Hasil Dalam Negeri (“LHDN”)

Objective: To educate consumers on the various LHDN e-payment services available

Areas to covered:

  • Stamp duty e-payment: Functions and processes
  • Other services offered by LHDN

Presentation 5: E-Payment and Other Services in Courts

Objective: To educate consumers on the various

e-payment services available in courts

Areas to be covered:

  • Usage and types of e-payment services available in courts

Question-and-Answer Session
