The Continuing Professional Development Sub-Committee of the Johore Bar is organizing a Seminar on Reviewing Industrial Court Awards – Judicial review at the High Court.
The Seminar will cover as follows:
- What is judicial review?
- When can an Award of the Industrial Court be subjected to judicial review?
- 2 stage process – apllication for an order of certiorari
- Restrictive vs liberal approach to judicial review

About the Speaker
Ms. Suganthi Singam, graduated with an LLB (Hons) degree from University of Manchester and an LLM degree from University of Malaya. Her areas of specialization include collective bargaining; employment contracts and industrial actions; judicial review; mergers and acquisitions; dismissals; sexual harassment at the workplace; Employees Provident Fund and social security regulations; reorganization and retrenchment; trade disputes and union recognition; statutory benefits; and occupational health and safety issues. She has a wide experience in employment and judicial review matters, and has conducted hearings at all levels of the Courts.
Registration must be accompanied with payment to guarantee your place and is on a first-come first served basis limited to the first 90 members who register. Cash/Cheque should be crossed and made payable to JOHORE BAR HOUSE & LIBRARY FUND. Fee paid is non-refundable unless the event is cancelled.
If a particpant is unable to attend, a replacement is allowed provided that the Secretariat of the Johore Bar is notified in writing prior to the commencement of the event. Certificate of attendance will be given to participants who have successfully attended the talk. However, certificate of attendance shall not be awarded to late comers or those participants who attend this event after 15 minutes upon its commencement.
