The Johore Bar Human Rights Sub-Committee jointly with the Bar Council is organising a public forum on the Prevention of Terrorism Act 2015 (“POTA”) and the amendments to the Sedition Act 1948. This is part of the Bar Council’s nationwide campaign to uphold the rule of law, and the independence of the Judiciary and the Bar.
The forum will be a platform to address concerns on POTA and the amendments to the Sedition Act 1948, which are a gross violation of the rule of law and the constitutional safeguards enshrined in the Federal Constitution.
The invited speakers include:
(1) Mr. Steven Thiru, President of the Malaysian Bar;
(2) Dato’ Yeo Yang Poh, Member of Johore Bar and Past President of the Malaysian Bar; and
(3) Mr. Syahredzan Johan, Co-Chairperson, Bar Council National Young Lawyers Committee.
