Circular No. 108/2023: Practice Management Forum – Part 2 (7 Feb 2024)

The Johore Bar Committee and the  Selangor Bar Committee had jointly organised Practice Management Forum – Part 1 on 28.7.2023 (online) that  had covered the following topics for discussion: (1) Leveraging Artificial Intelligence For Legal Practice; (2) Building a Successful Legal Practice; and (3) Digitalising Your Law Firm Practices.

Kindly be informed that the second part of the Practice Management Forum (online) will be jointly organised by the Johore Bar Committee and the Selangor Bar Committee on 7.2.2024.

Speakers

Shyamala Manoharan has over 30 years of experience managing complex liability claims, mainly in the legal and healthcare sectors. She was called to the Bar in 1993 and practiced general litigation for 8 years. In 2001 she left practice to join the Malaysian Bar Professional Indemnity (PI) Scheme in Willis and Jardine Lloyd Thompson (JLT). She was instrumental in developing the Scheme administration and the Claims management practices to where it is today. Shyamala helped establish Echelon Claims Consultants to focus on providing the Malaysian Bar with specialized claims management service. In 2016 Shyamala was a key member of the team that set up the MEDEFEND indemnity scheme for medical practitioners. With this background, she has also helped clients with implementing tools to improve their practice. Armed with years of knowledge and understanding clients’ needs, Shyamala has developed a friendly reconciliation initiative that helps resolve claims in the most efficient manner, saving time and costs for all parties.

Suresh Sachithanantham was called to the Bar in 1998. He is currently a Senior Partner at Messrs Rastam Singa & Co. His main areas of practice are Civil Litigation and Corporate Commercial Work.

Dr Tesini M Paramannantha Veloo graduated with an MD degree from the Volgograd State Medical Academy, Russia and a Master of Psychological Medicine from the University of Malaya. Dr Tesini is a Consultant Pyschiatrist attached to the Red Clinic and also a Senior Lecturer in the International Medical University (IMU). She strongly believes that psychotherapy is equally important as pharmacotherapy. Her special interests include women’s mental health, as well as child and adolescent mental health.

Nat Siow has a B.A in Psychology and a M.A in Marriage, Couple and Family Counselling. He is registered with the Malaysian Board of Counselors. Nat is a mental health practitioner who values the importance of collaboratively creating a humanity affirming space with his clients. He hopes to come alongside people as they process through difficulties that come up in life whether it be relational dynamics, grief, trauma, and/or exploring LGBTQIA+ identity.

Adeline Phun hasover 20 years of experience in the industry where she has seen the evolution in communications and tools used and learnt how best to move in a digital-focused era. From driving small to large-scale campaigns for offline and online media, running industry leadership campaigns and crisis management programmes, and successful lobby drives with local Members of Parliament via local and global partner agencies, she runs 360 integrated campaigns that make you think, what’s next? Adeline brings purposeful storytelling catered to hit the home run in all communication strategies executed.

Vincent Ong was called to the Bar in 2019 and is currently a Senior Associate at Messrs Tan Norizan & Associates. His main areas of practice are in Corporate and Commercial Litigation and General Litigation.
