The Continuing Professional Development Sub-Committee of the Johore Bar in collaboration with the Bar Council CPD Department is organizing a SEMINAR ON ISLAMIC FINANCE: REGULATORY FRAMEWORK that will be conducted by EN. MEGAT HIZAINI HASSAN, a member of KL Bar.
This seminar will provide an overview and update of the current trends relating to the Islamic financial system and its regulatory framework in Malaysia.
The seminar will cover:
(1) Shariah compliance and Shariah regulators
(a) Islamic banking and the Shariah Advisory Council of Bank Negara Malaysia (Central Bank of Malaysia Act 2009)
(b) Islamic capital markets and the Shariah Advisory Council of the Securities Commission Malaysia (Capital Markets and Services Act 2007)
(2) Frame work of Islamic banking
(a) Islamic banks (Islamic Financial Services Act 2013)
(b) Islamic banking windows (Financial Services Act 2013)
(c) Offshore Islamic banking (Labuan Islamic Financial Services and Securities Act 2010)
(3) Framework of Islamic capital markets
Sukuk (Capital Markets and Services Act 2007 and Securities Commission Malaysia Sukuk Guidelines)

The bio-data of the Speaker
EN. MEGAT HIZAINI HASSAN is an advocate and solicitor of the High Court of Malaya. He is a partner at Messrs Lee Hishammuddin Allen & Gledhill. He is a member of the Bar Council Islamic Finance Committee and a former lecturer at the International Islamic University Malaysia (“IIUM”).
He graduated with Master of Laws degrees from Harvard University and University of Cambridge, and a Bachelor of Laws (First Class Honours) degree from IIUM.
He is a co-author of The Law and Practice of Islamic Banking and Finance (First Edition (2003); Second Edition (2010)); and An Introduction to Islamic and Conventional Corporate Finance (2012), published by Sweet & Maxwell. He has written articles on Islamic banking and finance for several publications.
